Carla Allen is a Health & Wellness Coach and a Podcaster. She is 58 years old and is on fire for life and helping others realize that age is just a number! She has been passionate about the health and nutrition and fitness world for most of her adult life. Carla is on a mission to help change the mindsets of women that their age is not their cage. Her positive attitude about aging is contagious as she often says, “it’s never too late and you’re never too old!” She loves to encourage others that you can still achieve your optimal health, start that exercise program, try out a new hobby, or create that business you’ve been dreaming about! Carla began her health coaching business and debuted her podcast “Your Age Is Not Your Cage™” in her 50’s, so she’s proof that you can do anything at any age! Carla is now living out her childhood dream of being a radio DJ through her new podcasting journey. Her passion is talking and sharing inspirational stories of amazing, brave, bold, courageous women and men that have overcome challenges in their lives and are now thriving more than ever. Carla’s heart’s desire is for her podcast to be a space where her listeners feel empowered with a new confidence, encouraged with a renewed hope, and forever changed to want to pursue the life God has called them to with all they’ve got. Carla has been married to her hubby, Sonny for 25 years and has two amazing adult children and a sweet daughter-in-law, along with her two sweet puppy dogs, Waylon & Boone. Carla loves Jesus, hanging out with her family, is passionate about all things to do with health, nutrition, wellness, & exercise, she loves walking, enjoys lifting weights at the gym, and she is happiest doing anything that is outdoors! She is an empty-nester that believes these years can truly be the best years of your life and she wants you to believe it for yourself too! Her motto: If you’re still here, you’re not done living! Today I’m chatting with Kelly Kohn.  I discovered Kelly recently on Instagram from a post on Women Who Lift Weights and I was intrigued immediately by her story and her bubbly, encouraging personality and her daily motivational fitness reels on her IG page. Kelly is a mom to 3 boys, struggled with weight and exercise for years and then finally was able to lose over 80lbs.  In September 2023, Kelly began pursuing her dream of being a personal trainer when in October 2023 she was hit with the news that she had breast cancer.  But Kelly is now a breast cancer SURVIVOR!!  I like to say breast cancer THRIVER.  She is using her pain for her purpose and I love it!

We’re going to cover the action steps you can take to walk through this perimenopause/menopause journey with the tools you need to embrace the changes in your body. This can be a beautiful next step in your season of life if we equip ourselves and embrace it instead of dreading it. It doesn’t have to be awful if we’re equipped and empowered with the tools we need to set us up to be our own best health advocate.  My hope is that my story and all that I learned can guide you into perimenopause and menopause effortlessly!

Today, I’m chatting with a very special guest and she’s also family!  My cousin Abby Paquet is joining me today to share about her family’s life and the changes they’ve made over the last few years to get back to a simpler way of life.  Abby is a mom to two beautiful boys, wife to her high school sweetheart, registered nurse, photographer, Believer, and most recently, homesteader.  Abby has many passions including knitting, homemaking, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and caring for their dogs and chickens.  She loves being outdoors with her family as much as possible and values being a lifelong learner and trying new things.

*Baking sourdough bread, dinners around the table, spending their days outdoors, learning to garden, learning how to build, canning, candle making, & sewing.

Today on Carla’s Convos we talk about how we start and end each day and why it’s so important. Being intentional with creating these daily habits will get easier and easier as you keep doing them. Consistency!  Just don’t give up! If you miss anything, don’t beat yourself up. Just move on and start fresh! Before you know it, you’ll have created healthy habits and a sustainable, amazing, new lifestyle! 
 
Use my ideas but make your daily routine your own so that it works for you.  The important thing is to take action and don’t give up.  I’m cheering you on every step of the way!

So today I had the privilege of chatting with Liz Haselmayer.  Liz is a homeschooling mother to three daughters and the creator of Homegrown Education.  She’s passionate about teaching kids the foundations of real food and raising “wildly capable” kids with her husband. They are a nourished family, living on hunted game, homeschooling their babies, running small businesses, and leaning into the Lord’s calling. I took a little diversion from my normal podcasts to focus on celebrating Holy Week leading up to Easter Resurrection Sunday. It truly is a journey filled with so many heart-wrenching and beautiful moments. It’s the story of Jesus Christ's journey to the cross, dying for us, and rising again on Easter Sunday.

Doesn’t it seem like more and more people are wanting to get back to the basics? There’s been an increasing desire to learn to become more self-sufficient as we get to know our local farmers and discover all the ways that we can provide for our families in a more sustainable and traditional way.
